When God is silent.. (Deut. 29)

Have you ever noticed how people are wired differently in how they process information?

I come from a computer science and math background which means I process information at a detailed level, want to identify facts, and expect everything to add up.

So one of the things I find difficult is when Scripture doesn’t give me all the answers I seek; when God is silent on some things in His Word. Thankfully there are very few cases when that is the case.

But the verse below helps me understand the perspective I need to have when Scripture is silent and how I am to keep following Jesus even then:

Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, so that we may follow all the words of this Law.

In other words, when Scripture is silent or doesn’t answer all of my questions, I am to trust God rather than filling in the blank.

In fact, if I do try to fill in the blank or demand an answer, I’m trying to play God rather than trust God.

Because what Scripture does give me is all the information I need to go out and live in a way that brings God glory. All I have to do is focus on the love God has for me and the love He asks me to have for those He puts in my path.

Dear Lord, Thank you for all the answers You do give me daily in Your Word. And Lord, thank you for the reminder to trust You rather than filling in the blank even when Your Word is silent.
