Unholy Choices (2 Chronicles 8:11)

Have you ever found yourself faced with a choice that you knew was unholy, one that would not please God and would hurt those around you? Solomon, the wisest person to ever live, was faced with such a choice.

Solomon married Pharaoh's daughter as a part of a political treaty to secure an alliance with Egypt (1 Kings 3:1). But she was not the only pagan wife he took. There were many others. They all worshiped false gods and eventually caused Solomon to do the same. Unfortunately, Solomon's choice to disobey God's law in this one area, not only caused his downfall, but the downfall of the entire kingdom of Israel.

In every other area of his life, Solomon chose to follow God. But in this one area, he chose to ignore God's laws and join himself with pagan women who worshiped false gods.

We learn here that he knew what he was doing was unholy and would not please God.

2 Chronicles 8:11 Then Solomon brought Pharaoh’s daughter up from the city of David to the house which he had built for her, for he said, “My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places are holy where the ark of the Lord has entered.

No matter how good or "holy" we are in most areas of our life, one unsurrendered area, can begin our downfall. Unfortunately, it's not just us that will be hurt by these choices. Those close to us can be taken down as well.

Dear Lord, Please help me guard my heart in every area of my life. Please give me the wisdom to not even enter places that are unholy or build relationships that will take my eyes off of You. Lord, I know if Solomon sinned against You in these ways, I am certainly susceptible too. So please protect me from pursuing anyone or anything which will not please You, so that sin does not gain a foothold in my life. In Jesus' name. Amen
