Undeniable Prophecy Fulfilled (Ezekiel 36-39)

With a background in math and computer science, I am naturally drawn to Bible prophecy. But it's the statistical impossibility of fulfilled prophecy that wows me. For me, it's undeniable proof that God's Word is truth without any margin of error.

Did you know that Jesus in His first coming to this earth fulfilled 333 prophecies about the Messiah?

For example, the Messiah was to be:

  • Born of the seed of Abraham - Genesis 12:1-3, Genesis 22:18 - 1,400 BC

  • Born of the tribe of Judah - Genesis 49:10 - 1,400 BC

  • From the lineage of King David - 2 Samuel 7:12 - 1,000 BC

  • Born in Bethlehem - Micah 5:2 - 700 BC

  • Born of a Virgin - Isaiah 7:14 - 700 BC

  • Born before Temple destroyed - Malachi 3:1, Daniel 9:26 - 430-536 BC

  • Heal Blind, Deaf, Lame, Mute - Isaiah 35:5-6 - 700 BC

  • Rejected by His people - Psalm 118:22 - 1440-586 BC

  • When He would die - Daniel 9:24-26 - 536 BC

  • How He would die - Psalm 22:16-18, Isaiah 53:5, Zech. 12:10 - 1400-480 BC

  • He would rise from the dead - Psalm 16:10 - 1440-586 BC

Most of us are familiar with these prophecies. But did you ever stop to think that God gave these prophecies of the Messiah, 480 to 1,400 years before Jesus was born?

But from a mathematical point of view, here's what's really amazing:

  • Probability of Jesus fulfilling 8 Messianic prophecies is: 1 in 10 (to the 17th power)

  • Probability of Jesus fulfilling 48 Messianic prophecies is: 1 in 10 (to the 157th power)

  • Probability of Jesus fulfilling 300+ Messianic prophecies is statistically impossible, unless He truly is the Messiah.

Josh McDowell, while trying to disprove Jesus, ended up becoming a follower of Jesus because of the messianic prophecies Jesus fulfilled.

Lee Strobel, an investigative reporter and an atheist, while trying to disprove his wife's faith in Jesus ended up becoming a follower of Jesus and eventually a pastor because of the undeniable evidence of the prophecies which Jesus fulfilled, not just according to the Bible but because of historical records and even a respected medical journal.

But perhaps one of my favorite prophecies is in the Old Testament book of Zechariah:

  • Zechariah 11:12-13 So they paid me 30 pieces of silver. And the LORD said to me, 'Throw it to the potter' - the handsome price at which they priced me! So I took the 30 pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the LORD to the potter.

Judas Iscariot agreed to betray Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. After doing so, Judas felt bad and returned the money to the priests who had given it to him. But the priests didn't want to take the money back because it was "blood money." So Judas threw the money in the temple. The priests then used it to buy the potter's field.

This means in trying to kill Jesus and convince the people, by His death on the cross, that He was NOT the Messiah, they actually fulfilled multiple prophecies that proved Jesus is the Messiah. Only God could do that!!!

However, skeptics may still say, "But how do we know all of that actually happened?" Of course, any other historical event that the world believes happened, has much less proof, than the evidence which proves Jesus is the Messiah. But, for the sake of the skeptics out there, let's look at the Biblical prophecies which have been fulfilled in our time today from Ezekiel 36-39:

Ezekiel 36:1-8 - prophecy that Israel would bloom again.

  • In 1867, Mark Twain visited Israel and described it as "a silent, mournful expanse, a hopeless dreary, heart-broken land."

  • May 14, 1948, Israel became a nation again in a single day fulfilling Isaiah 66:8.

  • Since 1948, it is undeniable that the land of Israel has bloomed again. It has become fruitful with trees, agriculture, military strength, medical discoveries, and technological innovations blowing the doors off the Ezekiel 36 prophecies.

  • Then there's the additional fact that Hebrew was a dead language for almost 2,000 years. Today, Hebrew, is the national language of Israel and hundreds of thousands of Jews all over the world speak it. If you know anything about languages, this has never happened before.

  • But we can clearly see in our time, today, that these prophecies have been fulfilled.

Ezekiel 37:15-19 - prophecy of the reunion of Israel and Judah into one nation

  • This reuniting of the northern kingdom and southern kingdom was also prophesied in Hosea 1:11.

  • Today, we can clearly see this prophecy has been fulfilled in our time.

However, there are still parts of this prophecy which are yet to be fulfilled:

  • Ezekiel 37:23-... - the Jews repenting and trusting in Jesus as their Messiah

Ezekiel 37 tells us the physical restoration would happen before the spiritual restoration, just as we see true today.

  • Ezekiel 38-39 - The Gog Magog War (Russia, Iran, Turkey, Sudan, Libya) coming together to try to destroy Israel but God intervening against them.

Stay tuned. That prophecy could happen in our lifetime. The players are certainly lining up together on the chess board and threatening to make moves against Israel just as the Bible says will happen, at some point.

If all the prophecies about the Messiah's first coming were fulfilled in Jesus and we can see the evidence of the Ezekiel 35-37 prophecies being fulfilled before our eyes in our time today, what do you think the mathematical probability is of the remaining Biblical prophecies being fulfilled just exactly as the Bible says they will be?

Just mathematically speaking, it is 100% probable.

In fact mathematically, the only way anyone could deny that the Bible is absolutely true, would be to choose to ignore it.

Dear Lord, I pray that these amazing prophecies which You have so clearly fulfilled, would inspire others to open Your Word and investigate the undeniable truth of Scripture for themselves. I pray as they do that they would be overwhelmed with Your presence and the truth of Your Word. In Jesus' name, Amen.
