UN Designates Temple Mount as Muslim

Updated: Feb 18, 2022

In Prophecy News:

UN recognized the Temple Mount as only Muslim

The United Nations passed a controversial resolution Wednesday that criticizes Israel and calls the Temple Mount only by its Muslim name, Haram al-Sharif. Sadly 129 nations supported this "Jerusalem Resolution" which excludes Jewish ties to the Temple Mount.

The Temple Mount is the site of the first temple that was built by Solomon and destroyed by the Babylonians, and of the second temple that was destroyed by the Romans. The Western Wall, where Jews pray, is part of the Temple Mount structure.

But this resolution says "any actions taken by Israel, to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the Holy City of Jerusalem are illegal." The resolution does not contain the phrase "Temple Mount" but instead refers to it as Haram al-Sharif - the Muslim term for the site.

The resolution calls for "upholding the status quo at the Haram al-Sharif." But the term itself is a slap in the face to Israel and seen as "changing the status quo." In the past the U.N. used the agreed upon terminology "Haram al-Sharif/Temple Mount."

Is it appropriate for the United Nations to deny the historical significance of the Temple Mount to the Jews as well as to Christians? No, but this is certainly to be expected according to Bible Prophecy.

In Matthew 24:9 Jesus warned that in the end times "you will be hated by all nations because of me." So even now as we approach the end of the church age, we are seeing birth pangs which match this prophecy. We can only expect the world to try to erase any ties to the most Holy place of Judaism and Christianity which ultimately points to Jesus.

But at the beginning of the Tribulation period, when the Antichrist comes to power, he will actually allow the Jews to build the third temple on the Temple Mount. For the first 3.5 years of the Tribulation, he will allow the Temple Mount to be recognized as a place to honor their God, who is the Creator of the universe.
