Toxic Relationships (1 Samuel 24)

Relationships can be a blessing and a curse. Unfortunately sometimes we connect with people that make it their mission in life to take us down.

Often times these people feel threatened by our presence or want what we have. So to feel better about themselves or to try to obtain the prize they are after, they try to make us look bad, make us angry, or destroy us.

That’s what’s going on in 1 Samuel 24 between Saul and David. Saul knows the Spirit of the Lord is upon David. Saul can see God working through David in everything he says and does.

So Saul does everything he can to take David down, from making things up about him to hunting him down and trying to kill him.

Meanwhile David has an opportunity to tell Saul face to face who is evil and who is following the Lord and Saul has no defense.

1 Samuel 24:12-13 May the Lord judge between us. Perhaps the Lord will punish you for what you are trying to do to me, but I will never harm you. As that old proverb says, ‘From evil people come evil deeds.’ So you can be sure I will never harm you.

Saul leaves David for a time but his focus remains on himself.

The question is, what will David do? Will he keep seeking the Lord or will he too start focusing on himself?

Lord, Thank you for this reminder that when evil people attack me, You know the truth and the desires of my heart. I just need to keep seeking your wisdom and your direction and make sure everything I say and do brings You glory.
