Thorn in My Side (2 Corinthians 12)

Every one of us is going to face trials in this life. What will be our attitude as we face these trials? What will others see in us? Will they see anger and a "why me" attitude? Or will they see hope and trust in Jesus even in the middle of the storm?

I am in the middle of a trial right now. This morning I had multiple doctor's appointments and still more appointments to go today. But in the middle of it all, I couldn't wait to do my Bible reading. I didn't know what chapters I would be reading or even where I left off. But I knew from past experience that when I am dealing with "a thorn in my flesh" and I lean into God in His Word, He always gives me exactly what I need.

So this morning as I saw this passage was what was in my reading, one of the passages I have always leaned on when I have faced health issues, I knew it was God reminding me that He is here with me and all that I need.

2 Corinthians 12:7-10 [7] I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. [8] Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. [9] But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. [10] That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

I don't know what will be the results of the thorn in my side that I am dealing with. But I do know, God's grace will get me through it and that His power and strength are all that I need.

I know that many of you are also dealing with thorns in your side. I pray that you will feel God's presence and be assured that his grace and strength will see you through it.

Dear Lord, Thank you for always giving me exactly what I need to hear in Your Word. Thank you for the assurance of your presence and for your plan for my life. Lord, as I go out today, I pray that others will see You in me. Lord, please give me an opportunity to share the hope I have in You with someone today. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
