The Lord will be my God (Gen 35)

Updated: Feb 14, 2022

In Genesis 35, Jacob had returned to the Promised Land and wandered around with his family. But he had not honored the vow he had made to God before he left in Genesis 28.

Genesis 28:20-21 "If God will be with me and will keep me on this journey .. and I return to my father's house in safety, then the Lord will be my God."

God had been with Jacob and he had returned safely. But Jacob forgot about making the Lord, his God. So his children didn't know God either. They knew about God. But there's a difference in knowing about Him and making Him the Lord of your life, living to bring Him glory.

So in Genesis 35:1-2 Then God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel .. make an altar there to God .." So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, "Put away the foreign gods which are among you, purify yourselves and change your garments."

It's easy to know who Jesus is. It's another thing to discard the idols in this life which we put before Him, purify ourselves, and put on new garments, saying "You are the Lord of my life."

Dear Lord, Please protect me from getting distracted with this world and the busyness of this life. Today and every day that you wake me up and give me breath, help me live for You rather than for myself. Jesus, you are my Lord God. Help me live today to bring You glory.
