The Blessing of Revelation (Revelation 1)

In January 2022, I started out with a goal of sharing the application I found in my daily reading of Scripture by writing devotions through the Bible. I didn't make my goal of reading through the Bible in a year as I normally do. Yet God has blessed me more.

I was blessed as I took my time, meditating on book after book and then trying to put into words what God had said to me through His Word, chapter by chapter, verse by verse. I read each book, each chapter, and each verse more thoroughly than ever before and with greater understanding.

So now, as I start the last book of the Bible, I can tell you it will not be a fast read even though I know this book well enough that I can tell you what happens in almost every chapter. In fact, I would say, this has become one of my favorite books of the Bible, now that I understand God's intent behind it.

Jesus gave us the words of prophecy in this book to bless us. And after studying it several times, I have definitely been blessed, just as God says we will be:

Revelation 1:3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near.

There are actually several ways I have been blessed by studying the book of Revelation.

First, my eyes have been opened to be able to see current events through the lens of End-Times Bible Prophecy. As current events happen, it's very obvious to me now when it correlates with God's plan for the end of the church age and the set up for the 7-year Tribulation, according to Scripture. I could not see that before I completely studied the Biblical books of End-Times prophecy, starting with Revelation.

Second, as I see these End-Times events beginning to take shape like pieces on a chess board, I am not fearful; I'm excited. My mindset is, "Wow, Lord, it's happening just like Your Word said it would." It absolutely and completely confirms the authenticity of Scripture to me.

Third, I am blessed because I now understand God's intent throughout the entire book of Revelation. Jesus' will rapture His believers at the end of the church age. But then there will be 7-years of judgment poured out on the world which refuses to repent and trust in Jesus. The purpose of those judgments is to give these unbelievers who are left one more chance to repent and turn to Jesus. In fact, it's not even one more chance. It's literally chance after chance to hear the gospel and see their need for a savior all the way to the very end.

God's desire is that absolutely everyone would repent and be united with Him for all eternity. But He gives each one of us a choice to accept Jesus or reject Him.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow about His promises as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

That brings me to the fourth blessing. As I see the shadow of End-Times prophecy being cast over our world today, I am filled with a passion to make sure every single person close to me and far from God hears how much Jesus loves them and wants to save them from a dark and painful eternity without Him.

And finally, I have been blessed through the study of the book of Revelation, as I have had the opportunity to share the gospel of salvation many times over and see others come to faith in Jesus through this book.

But what about you? Do you trust God? Do you believe His Word is true? Will you trust His promise that you will be blessed by studying Revelation and walk through it with me right here in the coming weeks. See for yourself that God means what He says... blessed is he who reads, hears, and heeds the prophecy in this book for the time is near.

Dear Lord, Thank you for putting it on my heart over and over again to study Revelation until it became clear and I received your promised blessings. Lord, I pray that others will be motivated to trust You in reading, truly hearing, and heeding Your Words of prophecy in the book of Revelation. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
