Resisting Idols (Exo 32)

Updated: Feb 14, 2022

From the first part of the Old Testament to the end of the New Testament there are warnings after warnings about idolatry. Do we still have to worry about falling to idolatry today?

In Exodus 24:3, all the people of Israel affirmed the covenant saying, "All the words which the LORD has said we will do."

But immediately after that in Exodus 32:1, while Moses is on the mountain getting the detailed instructions the people had just agreed to, they ask Aaron to make them an idol they could follow in the way they wanted to and felt right in their own eyes.

Dear Lord, Please help me remember that right after a mountain top experience with You, I'm going to be tempted to return to the idols that are convenient. I will want to go right back to doing what is right in my own eyes rather than seeking your will and your way.

Lord, please protect me from elevating anyone or anything above You. Please work in my heart to mold me into who You want me to be rather than me trying to mold You into a God that is convenient and right in my own eyes. In Jesus' name. Amen
