Pharaoh didn't know God (Exo 5)

Updated: Feb 14, 2022

We can't expect someone to obey God when they don't truly know God.

In Exodus 5, when Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and told him that the Lord said to "let my people go," Pharaoh said:

Exodus 5:1-2 "Who is the Lord that I should obey His voice? I do not know the Lord."

Why would we expect anyone who does not know the Lord to obey Him?

And if we do know the Lord, are we striving to obey Him?

Dear Lord, I pray for those, like Pharaoh, who don't know you. I remember what that was like. I remember feeling alone to face the world, even when people were with me. I remember feeling angry when circumstances didn't seem right in my eyes. I remember feeling despair and trying to find fulfillment and purpose in position and relationships and none of that quenched my thirst.

Lord, today, I thank you for making yourself known to me, through your presence, your peace, your strength and your direction. Lord, I know I will never be perfect on this side of heaven. I know I will still struggle daily with the desire to do things my way and what seems right in my own eyes. But I also know that sin only leads me to brokenness. So Lord, I choose You and your way, not mine. For You are the way, and the truth and the life. As I focus on You and strive to follow and obey You, I'm filled with your joy and peace.

Lord, one day with you is better than 1,000 days without you. So please strengthen me to follow and obey You, today, so that my life is a reflection of one who knows and trusts in You. Amen.
