Our Great High Priest (Lev 16)

Updated: Feb 14, 2022

This morning as I read Leviticus 16, it got my attention that Aaron, the high priest, had to first give an offering for his sins.

He could only go in the Holy of Holies on the Day of Atonement and even then had to follow God’s instructions exactly so he would not die as he entered God’s presence.

This reminds me that never has their been a human being born who was without sin. That’s why Romans 3:23 says “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (No exceptions) Romans 3:10 “there is no one righteous, not even one.”

But what a loving and gracious God we serve that He would lower Himself to take on human flesh so that He could die in our place and become our great and final High Priest, seated at the right hand of God the Father, and interceding on our behalf.

He understands our weakness because He faced all the same challenges we face except that He never caved to sin. He conquered sin and death and made a way so that we can now come boldly to the throne of God without fear of death.

And as we come before the throne of God, because of Jesus, our great high priest, we will receive mercy and grace and power through his Holy Spirit.

Thank you Lord Jesus for making a way for me to always approach the throne of God and receive mercy, grace, strength and love.
