Look to the Lord (Isaiah 31)

When hard times come, when disaster strikes, who do you look to? Who or what is the source of your strength? Do you depend on yourself, your spouse, a friend, family members? Who is the first person you call out to for help?

God's desire is that He is the One we call out to and depend on. He wants us to truly trust in Him.

But's that easier said than done, isn't it? First, we try to trust in our own strength. Then we trust in those around us who we perceive have the strength and wisdom we need.

In fact, that's exactly what Israel did when Assyria was about to attack. They tried to make an alliance with Egypt and depend on Egypt to come to their rescue. But God said, "Why are you depending on Egypt instead of on Me?"

Isaiah 31:1 What sorrow awaits those who look to Egypt for help, trusting in their horses, chariots, and charioteers and depending on the strength of human armies instead of looking to the LORD the Holy One of Israel.

Could it be that God is saying the same thing to us today? What's your Egypt you are trusting in place of God?

For me, it's myself first, then my husband, my family, etc. I have to make sure I am looking to God first and truly trusting in Him in all circumstances rather than trying to wade through the flood waters by my own strength or the strength of those around me.

Dear Lord, Please help me keep my eyes focused on You, trusting your plan, your provision, and your direction. Please give me the patience to wait for your timing in all things. In Jesus' name, amen.
