Impact of our choices (Gen 26)

Updated: Feb 14, 2022

Have you ever heard it said, "I'm not hurting anyone else!" Could it be we say that when we know what we're doing is wrong but we choose to do it anyway?

The problem with that mindset is our obedience or disobedience to God doesn't just affect us.

Our choices can bring blessings or consequences on our children and those around us for generations to come.

Abraham's obedience to take Isaac up Mount Moriah resulted in the Savior of the world coming through his descendants, Israel.

Abraham's disobedience to take Hagar as his wife to try to get the son God had promised rather than trusting God to provide through Sarah resulted in a nation coming forth that would forever seek to destroy his descendants, Israel. (Genesis 16:3-4, 10-12)

Abraham's disobedience saying Sarah was not his wife (Genesis 20:2), resulted in his son, Isaac, committing the same sin:

Genesis 26:7 When the men asked Isaac about his wife, he said, "She is my sister," for he was afraid to say, "she is my wife."

Our choices today, impact the lives around us tomorrow and for generations to come.

Dear Lord, Please show me how my choices impact others. Please help me obey your Word so that others are drawn to You rather than away.
