Homemade Soup (Psalm 34)

Updated: Feb 17, 2022

My happiest memories as a child were at grandma’s house. It was always packed with family, laughter, kids playing, and homemade soup that you could smell as you walked in the door.

To this day, with the taste of homemade soup, I can hear the sound of my grandma’s voice, see her loving smile and enjoy those sweet memories.

Every Sunday night our adult kids come over for dinner. On a regular basis they know I am going to make a homemade soup for them. And now if they’re reading this, they know why. I want to give them those same comforting memories I have from the simple taste of homemade soup they can smell as they walk through the door.

So this morning as I read Psalm 34, this verse jumped off the page at me..

Psalm 34:8 “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.”

Even more than those early years at grandma’s house, I find amazing comfort, strength and joy as I taste Jesus, spending time with Him in His Word, in prayer, and in praise. My heart can truly soar with joy even in the middle of a storm when I taste Jesus; when I meditate on His Word and really let it soak in.

I wonder if many people today hear about Jesus and equate Him to food that is bitter, old, or maybe unpalatable because it is lacking flavor or seasoned with too much salt?

But one thing I know for sure is if you tasted my Jesus, you would be filled with joy, peace, and strength even in the middle of the storms that take away your sense of taste and smell.

Will you taste my Jesus, today?
