Hardened Hearts (Rev 16)

Revelation 16 shows us the final set of God's judgments which will be poured out on the earth during the 7-year Tribulation period and the response to those judgments.

God's desire in all of these judgments during the Tribulation period is to get people to realize that their sin separates them from God and that they need to repent and trust in Jesus to be saved.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

But God doesn't force anyone to repent and believe. It's a decision that each individual has to make.

So as we look at this last set of bowl judgments, it appears God is saying, "Now do you see that you need Me? Turn to Me in repentance and trust in Me as your Lord."

But instead the unbelievers at this point hardened their hearts and refused to repent:

Revelation 16:9 Men were scorched with fierce heat; and they blasphemed the name of God who has the power over these plagues, and they did not repent so as to give Him glory.

God gives each of us free will to choose our eternal destiny. Unfortunately many choose eternity without God, all the way to the very end.

The scary and sad part about Revelation is not judgments that God rains down. It's the decision that so many will make to reject our Creator God's offer of salvation and love.

Dear Lord, As I read through your final set of judgments, even in this I see your love. I see your strong desire that everyone will repent and believe but your amazing love to give everyone the free will to choose their eternal destiny. Lord, there are so many who come to mind for me who don't know You and are instead clinging to the World. Lord, I pray that even today they would repent and believe in Jesus, while there is still time. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
