God's Promises (Gen 12:3)

Updated: Feb 14, 2022

One of the most reassuring things for me about Scripture is when I can clearly see past prophesies fulfilled.

Abrahamic Covenant

In Genesis 12:3, God makes a covenant promise to Abraham, "I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed."

Part of this covenant promise, in Genesis 12:7, was to give the descendants of Abraham the land of Canaan.

Genesis 15:18-21 gives us the specific borders of this land promise.

Genesis 28:4 tells us it was just Abraham's descendants through his grandson, Jacob, who God passed this covenant promise down to.

God renamed Jacob, "Israel."

So God will bless those who bless "Israel" and curse those who curse "Israel."

We certainly see that to still be true today. When our nation has blessed Israel and supported their right to the covenant land, we have been blessed.

But when our nation has not supported Israel's right to their covenant land, we have been cursed.

Lord, I pray our leaders would bless your people, Israel, and their right to the covenant land which You gave them.
