Choose Righteousness (3 John & Jude)

Do you ever notice that every day, throughout the day, there are choices put before you to live righteously or to just barely toe the line? You're faced with a choice to make. You know the choice that is completely righteous. But you also consider the other options.

You can justify the other options in that you are not really doing anything wrong. You are in reality, obeying the letter of the law, but definitely not the spirit of the law. In other words, you are finding a way to make the situation work the way you want it to.

I was talking to someone about this yesterday. He was faced with a choice and could justify the "toeing the line" choice a hundred different ways. But when I asked him the question, "Are you living righteously?" he knew what he had to do because his goal is to live righteously before God every day. He doesn't ever want to be just toeing the line and neither do I.

I too am faced with decisions like this every day. I know what is righteous but I also know what would be just toeing the line.

However, I am not living to toe the line and get my way. I am living to bring Jesus glory. So I must always choose righteousness just as the Scripture says:

3 John 1:11 Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God.

Jude 1:11 Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam, for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

Lord, Thank you for the reminder as I watch others make decisions and as I am faced with decisions in my own life, to always choose righteousness. If I choose what is going to glorify You, I am always going to be filled with your joy, hope, love, and strength. Your presence in my life and knowing that I am walking with You is what I need more than anything else. So Lord, use me today and everyday to bring You glory and to share your message of love and salvation both with word and action. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
