Beauty is Deceptive (Judges 16)

Have you ever been drawn to someone by their outward appearance or a first impression but then after getting to know them you realized they were not at all what they seemed? I would imagine we have all been fooled in this way and so was Samson.

Samson was set apart from birth to be a special servant of God. But he kept being drawn away from God by beautiful pagan women.

After losing his wife, Samson fell in love with a Philistine woman named Delilah.

Although Samson loved her, Delilah was only interested in the riches she could gain by betraying him.

So after listening to her day after day, she influenced him to betray his special calling from God. He was deceived by her beauty and his desire to believe that Delilah really cared about him.

When she found out where his strength lied, she called in reinforcements to take him down and destroy him.

Judges 16:20 She said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” And he awoke from his sleep and said, “I will go out as at other times and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had departed from him.

There are many Delilahs out there who will appear attractive on the outside but are wolves in sheep’s clothing on the inside, waiting for the perfect sheep to devour.

Whether it is a friendship or a romantic relationship, we must guard our hearts to resist being unequally yoked and then suffering the consequences.
