Attitude reveals Faith (Gen 39)

Updated: Feb 14, 2022

It's in the hard times, in the storms of life, that our attitude really reveals our faith, or the lack there of.

In Genesis 39, Joseph is sold into slavery to Pharaoh's officer, Potiphar.

You would think Joseph would have been depressed, angry, and have a really bad attitude.

But Genesis 39:3-4 says "Now his master saw that the Lord was with him and how the Lord caused all that he did to prosper in his hand. So Joseph found favor in his sight and became his personal servant; and he made him overseer over his house"

Joseph was a slave in a foreign land where they didn't believe in God. But Potiphar saw that Joseph's God was blessing him.

That means Joseph trusted God and God blessed him with wisdom, peace, and strength which even unbelieving foreigners could see in him.

Dear Lord, This is a huge reminder to me to check my attitude and my focus. It's so easy to feel stressed and overwhelmed about how to get normal things done in an abnormal world. As time goes on, it can be really hard to stay positive.

But when I study what Joseph went through and how he handled it, I'm reminded that I just need to keep my eyes on You, not the world around me. As I do, You will strengthen me to accomplish your will, one day at a time. So Lord, please just help me keep trusting in You and your plan, like Joseph did.
