Wars and Rumors of War

Wars and Rumors of War

Jesus said not to be frightened by "wars and rumors of war."

As I scanned the news this morning, my mind quickly recalled Jesus’ words in Matthew 24:6 “You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened ..”

Although Jesus is talking about the Tribulation period, not the church age, it seems like this warning consistently applies to our time today.

  • North Korea launched an unexpected ballistic missile last night causing the U.S. security council to convene an emergency meeting.

  • China has its eyes on Latin America.

  • Russia has its eyes on Ukraine.

  • China and Russia are forming an alliance and both desire to see the U.S. taken down.

  • Iran is flying cargo planes full of weapons into Syria, not to mention their missile and UAV attacks on Israel and U.S. forces and their increasing levels of weapon grade uranium.

  • There is unrest in Yemen, Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan to name a few.

  • And of course the daily question of who is really coming in through the U.S. southern border?

So does Jesus’ tribulation message, “you will hear of wars and rumors of wars” have a message for us today? It sure feels like something big is about to pop.

But, let’s not miss what else Jesus said in Matthew 24:6“see that you are not frightened.” Why? Because God is in control and He is executing His plan on His timeline.

So could it be that “wars and rumors of wars” today, is Jesus’ calling His church to rise up and share His message of reconciliation with those around us who need to be filled with His peace through His Spirit? (2 Corinthians 5:18)

Rise up Church! Jesus is calling us to carry out His mission and share His message.
